oth L'Olivo and Ca' di Gatti have lovely gardens with spectacular views over the vineyards, olive groves, valleys and series of mountain ranges beyond. They each have their own private pools. They also have the possibility of using the large pool (7mt x 18mt) of the village of Comunaglia which is the sole use of the houses within the village and also the tennis court. Nearby there is the possibility of horse riding and Lake Trasimeno is an easy drive should you want to rent a sailing boat or take the ferry to the island for lunch.
For those of you who do not want to drive to a restaurant but at the same time do not feel like cooking at home there is a restaurant just 400 meters down the road that makes very good pizzas as well and, in the summer, has tables out on the terrace.
This area is famous for truffles and wild mushrooms, in particular "porcini" mushrooms. The village of Montone holds a festival at the end of October where you will find the Autumn fruits of the forest from chestnuts and truffles to honey. Eugenio and Louise Grippo produce very high quality olive oil and, from the end of October through the month of November guests may visit the olive press and see the olives being pressed and the oil produced.
It is also wonderful for those who like walking and in Perugia there are two golf clubs which our guests can use.
Throughout the year there are festivities in the surrounding towns and villages. In mid May Gubbio holds the famous race of the "cerri", from mid July to the end of August there is the Jazz Festival in Perugia, the music "Festival of the Nations" is held in Cittą di Castello during the second half of August when each year a different country is invited to participate.
During the month of June various villages in the area, including Spello and Monte Santa Maria Tiberina have an "Infiorata" when the streets are beautifully decorated with flower petals. Montone celebrates this on Corpus Domini on the first Sunday in June. The first week-end of each month Arezzo has an antique fair in its beautiful piazza.
For lovers of pottery Deruta, with a history of 800 years is close to hand as is Ripabianca which has been making terracotta pots for the same number of years. On a more mundane subject this part of Umbria is famous for its cashmere.
